These prearranged movements can be practiced alone, or under the watchful eyes of an instructor. In ancient times, the kata served as a method of teaching and pra...

Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura (1798-1890). He born in the city of Shuri (there is a bit of uncertainty on the exact year) on the island of Okinawa, early in his life he was sent to train to the Master Sakugawa school. He furthermore was taught directly by Master Kushanku. There is also enough information to believe that he also was taught by a Chinese Master called Iwah and on the other hand some mas...

Paipuren doesn't actually come from Go Kenki. It comes from a Taiwanese guy called Sai Choko, who was active in Japanese karate world during the midcentury years. He taught the form in a seminar in the late 50's or early 60's.

When I was very young I was a studen of Richard Kelly's in Florida, US. He learned the style while he lived in Japan. It is refreshing after over 15 years to see this style again, resurfacing many old memories. I no longer train, but will never forget this art. Perhaps I will start over again at 31 years of age. This is something that stays within and never departs. I feel I was brought here without prior thought of, if that makes sense. Thank you for sharing this peaceful part of our lives.
